Surfing the Digital Wave Suitcase Gift Box

Back of the 2006 IGAEA conference gift box. Made of gloss coated printed cardboard designed to look like a vintage suitcase.
This gift box was filled with swag and marketing materials and handed to conference attendees.

During my semi-annual rampage through moving boxes I’m beginning to wonder if I’ll ever unpack, I rediscovered an old Marvel comic project and another, even older print project I worked on while I was in college.

While I was studying Graphic Communication at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, I was commissioned to design the gift box for attendees of the IGAEA’s (International Graphic Arts Education Association) 81st annual conference. I was obsessed with vintage travel posters at the time and wanted to play with their old school textured vector art looking style, so I created a cardboard version of a vintage suitcase and covered it with my vector recreations of vintage travel stickers—and a sticker representing the conference itself.

The entire project was produced in Adobe Illustrator so individual design elements could be easily resized and repurposed for other event materials.
